Kathryn (Kat)'s Story
Life
My name is Kathryn, but most close friends just call me "Kat".
I am a native of West Virginia, and I lived there until the age of seven. In 1967 my family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where I spent most of my life growing up, eventually graduating from Woodlawn High School in 1977. My Father, along with my three brothers and their families, all still reside in Louisiana. My Mother passed away in April 2010.
I married in 1979, and I moved to Florida in January of 1983 when my spouse was transferred with his career. I have been a resident of Florida since then..
I enjoy hobbies such as gardening (I especially love my collection of orchids), and every now and then I add one more. I have an interest in photography as well, but I only wish I had more time to devote to it. I enjoy traveling, yet I very much enjoy time at home,curled up in a soft comfy chair with my tea and a movie, and a trip to the flea market can be fun, too. The computer is always on in the evening, and Facebook has become a fixture in my life as I keep up with my family members and friends, and their most recent posts and photo uploads. Its a wonderful social network allowing practically real-time notice of what everyone is doing and sharing.
I spend time saltwater fishing from the Bay Area bridges here in Florida. I especially enjoy it at night while I take in the beautiful city lights or a big, full moon's silver reflection on the water. Sharing this with good company and an ice cold soda on a muggy, southern summer night...just makes it all even better!
I dedicate a lot of time to my pet parrots,a sweet Senagal parrot named Safari, Chile-a red fronted Conure who is adopted and who just loves shaggy toys (his former owner passed away), Cayenne, a mini macaw (severe) who's a beautiful bundle of fun, and her little conure friend Cricket. They are wonderful friends, and always ready to welcome me home at the end of a long day.

completing high school, my history includes the fulfillment of diverse roles. Outside of being a wife and mother, I have held various jobs and have also been self employed. My first job out of high school was a cashier in a hardware store. Between 1979 and 1987 I held various positions in the banking industry from bank teller to special services including international exchange. In 1986, I became co-owner with my spouse in our purchase of an Ace Hardware franchise in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, where my work involved all operating aspects of a retail business.
Between 1990 and 1993, I was also involved in the ministry during which I spent some time as a temporary resident in the Dallas and Ft. Worth areas of Texas, and pastored a small church there with my husband in the east Texas town of Big Sandy.
I have been divorced since 1994. It was then that I began my career with Hospice, a large home health and palliative care agency dedicated to providing quality of life and end of life care for those diagnosed with terminal illnesses. I started as an accounts receivable clerk, and in my 18 years of employment I continued to advance within the agency to my current position as Patient Financial Systems Manager, which, in a nut shell, involves the testing of Electronic Medical Record Software, ensuring that the data from the medical record flows to the billing module and complies with all State and Federal Regulations for claims filing, and that payments received upload and apply appropriately to the correct claims..
I have spent many years supporting and assisting in the development of life skills in those with whom I have shared my life. Now that they have moved on to experience life on their own, I have chosen this time to invest more in myself, by taking time to enjoy all the things I put aside while focused on others. I am grateful for a successful career path, and for all the little things it now allows me to enjoy.
